Laptops in the Library

Laptops can be borrowed from the James Joyce and the Health Sciences Libraries. Laptops can be borrowed for up to 4 hours at a time. There is no charge to borrow a laptop. However, fines will apply for late returned, lost, stolen or damaged laptops.
The Library has two types of Laptop Loan Service:
- Laptops can be borrowed from the James Joyce and the Health Sciences Libraries.
- Laptops borrowed inside the library, are for library use only.
- Laptops borrowed outside of the library, can be used anywhere on campus. Laptops can be borrowed from outside the James Joyce Library, located close to the Library entrance gates at the James Joyce Library.
- Laptops can be borrowed for up to 4 hours at a time using your Student UCard.
- There is no charge to borrow a laptop. However, fines will apply for late returned, lost, stolen or damaged laptops.
Using the Laptops
- Data cannot be saved onto the laptop's hard drive.
- All files saved on the laptops will be deleted on shutdown.
- Save your files to online storage such as Google Drive, please SAVE your work early and often.
- Logout of all websites and applications.
- Shut down the laptop when you are finished.
- Attach the power cable when returning the laptop to the cabinet.
Laptops borrowed inside the library, are for library use only and must not be removed from the Library.
The Laptop Loan Kiosks are located in the James Joyce and Health Sciences libraries.
Terms of Use:
- Laptops can be borrowed for up to 4 hours from the Laptop Kiosk in the James Joyce and Health Sciences libraries using your Student UCard.
- Laptops are available anytime the Library is open and must be returned to the laptop cabinet before the Library closes.
- Laptops must be plugged in when returned to the cabinet. Laptops that are not plugged in will remain on your Library account and accrue charges.
- You are responsible for the laptop during the loan period. Do not loan it to anyone else or leave it unattended at any time.
- Laptops borrowed in the library are for Library use only and must not be removed from the Library.

Laptops borrowed outside of the library, can be used anywhere On Campus.
This Kiosk is lockers ZA to ZD, located close to the Library entrance gates at the James Joyce Library.

- Laptops are available anytime the Library is open and must be returned to the laptop cabinet before the Library closes.

- You are responsible for the laptop during the loan period. Do not loan it to anyone else or leave it unattended at any time.
- Laptops cannot be removed from campus.
There are a number of reasons why this may happen, including when:
- Fines on your account are more than €10.00.
- Items on your account are overdue.

Wireless network
The wireless network is available in all of our libraries. Find out how to access the internet using a wireless network.
Wireless hotspots are found at the following locations:
- James Joyce Library
- Richview Library
- Wireless is also available in Health Sciences Library, Veterinary Medicine Library and Blackrock Library.
Having difficulty connecting to the wireless network?
Wireless connectivity in popular areas can sometimes be difficult to access due to the high volume of users connecting from those locations. If you are unable to connect to the network:
- Try eduroam wireless network in UCD. Eduroam In UCD is a secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community.
- Or try a wired network point.
Wired network points
Wired network points provide an alternative way of connecting to the internet via the UCD network. To access the wired network you will need to register your laptop.

Printing from your laptop
Laptop printing is provided by Copi-Print using UCARD facilities.
